One brand quietly winning a legion of fans since coming to show in Paris two years ago is Silvia Tcherassi.
This season, this elegant Colombian-born designer presented her latest ideas in a light-filled suite in the Meurice overlooking the Tuileries Gardens. Splendid check frocks with dirndls; flowing plissé gowns with contrasting mono-color panels and some charming check pinafore dresses. Tcherassi may be little known to the great fashion world, but she already boasts 16 signature boutiques; and, since coming to Paris she now retails in Saks and Selfridges. “It’s been a revelation. Coming to Paris has won me many new accounts. It’s a very good moment for my house,” smiled Tcherassi, who greeted buyers and editors with her mother and daughter, Vera and Sophia. Effortlessly independent, Tcherassi even boasts her own hotel - Tcherassi Hotel + Spa in Cartagena de Indias, on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. He lookbook captured her mood – elegantly willowy Latin gals shot inside a library, where Colombia’s greatest artist, and a family friend, Gabriel Garcia Marquez used to write. “It’s a graceful, romantic space. Just like I want my fashion to be,” smiled Tcherassi, who is based in Coral Gables, Florida.
